Adelaide river Trip
The Adelaide River is the closest river to Darwin and is closed to all commercial fishing it is an example of the Northern Territory's river protection scheme. This river winds its way far inland, remaining tidal for many kilometers.
A lot of fishing takes place many Kilometers up stream where the flood plains meet the river. Michael from Gurus top end fishing knows where they are hiding.
Most Estuary fishing will require either trolling over the many hidden rock bars and submerged trees that have collapsed off the banks or casting into the smaller creeks that run from the floodplains. These creek mouths are a prime spot to hook a big one, as the fish congregate under the flow of fresh water running into the salt.

Fishing on the right tidal variance for barramundi is the key to success. The root systems of the mangroves that line the rivers banks provide the ideal place for these fish to lurk and also with the wetlands close by there is plenty of bird life and a few crocs as well.
