Darwin Harbour Mud crabbing

At Guru’s Top End fishing we also offer Mud Crabbing. This is an all day adventure as we need to head out of Darwin Harbour a bit to get to the best mud crabbing spots. We do a small amount of fishing in between the continual checking of the pots. This is as a result of our larger tidal movements as the pots will silt up and become less effective. Crocodiles are also fond of mud crab (and mud crab bait) so it is in our interest to stay ahead of the game. If the mud crabs are running hot, things happen pretty quickly! Pots will be set around the mangrove edges.

• Our trips are scheduled around the best tides to maximize your chances of getting a good catch of Mud crab.
• We will pick you up and drop you off for a full day charter. These arrangements will be made on booking.
• You should bring with you a broad brimmed hat, your camera, personal requirements including any medication, and a sense of fun.
• The limit is 10 crab per person or 30 per boat. Males and females of the species can be kept.  The male must be 130mm wide and the female 140mm. We are allowed to set a maximum of 10 pots.
• Bait used include chicken carcasses marinated in tuna oil and/or fish carcasses (racks).
